Almost a year after the botched brain surgery, Abbey returns to work, in her comfort zone the ICU. But all is not well. She struggles to differentiate right from wrong, realizes her personality is different and has gaps in her memory she can’t resolve. Living with her brain damage, she has to create her new world and at the same time hide her challenges.

Then her worst nightmare walks through the ICU doors and she must work side by side with the man who almost killed her, twice. How can Abbey navigate the ethical minefield of treating patients while her tormentor operates just down the hall?

When past and present collide, Abbey must decide if vengeance is worth risking everything.

Reviews

The Triggering Scent is the kind of thriller that completely takes hold of you and refuses to let go. Jenny White masterfully combines medical suspense with raw emotional intensity, making Abbey’s journey feel both hauntingly real and deeply unforgettable. Every twist sharpens the tension, while the psychological depth gives the story a powerful human heartbeat. It’s smart, chilling, and emotionally resonant in a way that truly stands above the rest. A standout thriller that deserves every bit of praise it gets.     B.M.

I haven't started reading yet, but I already know this one is going to stay with me. The description alone hit differently, there's something unsettling about a story that opens with Beep….Beep…..Beep……. and puts you right in the ICU before you've even turned a page. The premise is layered in a way most thrillers aren't: it's not just about survival, it's about what survival costs you, your memory, your sense of self, your ability to tell right from wrong. And then the author adds the gut punch of Abbey having to work alongside the man who shattered her life. The cover matches that tone perfectly: clinical, tense, and quietly ominous. Jenny White clearly isn't writing fiction for entertainment alone, there's lived experience behind this story, and you can feel it before chapter one. Watching this one closely.    Mia.

Your medical thriller feels like it was stitched together with real adrenaline instead of ink. The premise alone is deliciously nerve wrecking. A brilliant neurosurgeon battling addiction while holding someone’s life between trembling fingers is the kind of setup that makes readers whisper “just one more chapter” at 2:47 in the morning while questioning their life choices and caffeine intake. And Abbey Roberts returning to the ICU after a botched brain surgery, struggling with memory gaps, personality shifts, and the psychological chaos of working beside the man who nearly destroyed her life… that’s not just tension. That’s emotional dynamite with a lit fuse.

What makes this even more powerful is you. A nurse with more than three decades inside high stakes healthcare environments, an ICU veteran, a survivor of cancer, brain tumors, and abuse. That lived experience bleeds into the authenticity of your writing in the best possible way. Readers can feel the truth in the chaos, the ethics, the fear, the impossible decisions. This isn’t just fiction. It carries the weight of resilience, survival, and the fragile line between vengeance and healing. There’s something deeply human and strangely spiritual in the question Abbey faces… whether justice is worth risking everything when your own mind is still rebuilding itself.   Stevie Martine
